The exact saying “love conquers all” is not in the Bible, but one can find the idea of God’s love conquering everything within its pages. God’s love does truly conquer all things. His love for us is so strong that He died on the cross in order to redeem us from our sins (John 3:16-17). The Lord’s love for us has no boundaries and there is nothing in this world that His love cannot conquer.
Through love, God has already defeated Satan and death (Hebrews 2:14). All people who place faith in Jesus do not need to fear hell, condemnation, or eternal separation from God. Once an individual places faith in Jesus, they are covered in God’s grace, are forgiven, and given eternal life with Him.
What Does 'Love Conquers All' Mean in the Biblical Context?
The Bible tells us that nothing can overcome God’s love for us. Paul tells us in the Book of Romans that we are more than conquerors in Christ. He writes,
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord(Romans 8:37-39).
From this passage of Scripture, we are told that death, life, angels, demons, the present, the future, powers, height, depth, or anything else in the world can separate us from the love of God. When Paul speaks this truth to us, he is telling us that God’s love can conquer all things. Due to living in a fallen world, we will experience difficult seasons of life.
We may go through the death of a loved one, financial troubles, or relationship difficulties in our lives. However, God’s love can conquer each of these struggles because He is greater than any problem we could ever face. Jesus tells us in the Gospel of John, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
God’s love conquers all things in several ways. The love of God tears down the power of sin in our lives, heals bitterness, and causes us to want the best for other believers. When a person becomes a believer, they can truly experience the fullness of God’s love. Despite our sins, God still loved us.
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
However, it is not until after we accept Jesus that we can truly live in the knowledge of God’s love. When an individual becomes a believer, they are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6). We are now free from being enslaved to the desires of our flesh.
This does not mean that Christians will never sin again, but it does mean that we have the choice to choose not to sin. As believers in the Lord, we do not want to be enslaved by our sinful nature anymore. Instead of being enslaved to our sinful flesh, we are now able to live in the freedom of Christ.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1).
God’s love is the only way we are given freedom from sins. As all people know, sin and temptations are very hard to overcome. It is only by God’s love that we can overcome temptation and avoid sinning against Him (1 Corinthians 10:12-13). Similarly, God’s love also has the power to heal bitterness and resentment in relationships.
Does God’s Love Conquer All?
Once a person acknowledges and understands God’s love, they are able to offer the same love, kindness, and forgiveness that God has shown them to others. Ephesians 4:32 tells us, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Damaged and broken relationships will be able to be repaired and restored because of God’s love. Maybe you have a tough time forgiving a loved one who hurt you or maybe you have a hard time loving someone in your life because they are actively living in sin. God’s love is able to help you forgive the individual just as God forgave you.
The Lord does not promise each broken relationship will be fixed, but He does promise to help you forgive the other person. Oftentimes, the forgiveness extended to the individual can help the other person reach out and do the things needed to restore the relationship. Kindness, compassion, and forgiveness go a long way and can change a person’s heart.
Thirdly, God’s love can also conquer all because it causes us to want the best for other people in our life. God’s love never envies or harbors jealousy against another person. The love of God is always patient, kind, and ready to forgive others. It never keeps a record of wrongs, nor does it delight in evil. God’s love never fails.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).
When we show the same love to others, it will help us live to the glory of God. Wanting the best for others is a hallmark of the Christian journey. Living in envy, discord, and hate is not in the Will of God for His children. Rather, God wants us to desire only good things for the other people in our lives.
Why Does 'Love Conquers All' Matter?
Therefore, God’s love can really conquer anything and everything. The love found in the world cannot conquer all things. As fallen human beings, the love we have will not be like God’s love. Despite loving friends, families, or a spouse, our love can fluctuate depending on circumstances.
The Lord’s love for us never wavers as His love for us never weakens. God is our mighty Creator, Savior, and Redeemer. He loves us with an undying love and nothing that could happen in this world can separate us from His abundant love. The love of God can really conquer all things, even sin, death, and Satan.
