FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (2024)

FastestVPN isn’t a popular provider, and if you’re looking for a new VPN to enhance your privacy, chances are you won’t see this name online often. On the other hand, its website entices its users with promises of privacy, security, streaming, and even low-ping gaming. Due to its privacy-friendly jurisdiction in the Cayman Islands and a Lifetime plan, FastestVPN indeed seems like an attractive option. However, during this FastestVPN review for 2024, our team struggled to properly review and analyze this provider because of many issues we encountered.

On paper, this seems like a great provider, but in practice, we had issues with its apps, servers, and even a support team that wasn’t up to par. This provider promises a lot and offers a lot of features, but you’ll have to be lucky to make them function properly.

In today’s FastestVPN review and test, we’ll go through all of its features, test its performance and streaming capabilities, and see why it’s far from being a great VPN to use. Thus, if you’re seriously considering this provider, I suggest you bear with me through the entire analysis.

You’ll be very surprised to hear some things about it, which I’m sure, will impact your buying decision. For now, let me point you to our article about the best VPNs in 2024 if this intro was enough to point you away from FastestVPN. And if it wasn’t… well, let’s get started.

FastestVPN User Experience & Device Support

When visiting FastestVPN’s website, you’ll see the provider bragging about device compatibility, apps for all devices, and everything in between. Besides, it offers 10 simultaneous connections, which is definitely handy, but there are some major issues with its apps that I’ll address later in the review.

For now, it’s crucial to mention that the provider has native clients for platforms like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and Linux, which is somewhat expected from a premium provider. This VPN supports several Linux distros, such as Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, CentOS, Kali, and Raspberry Pi.

However, during my FastestVPN review, I had trouble setting it up properly and making it work as it should. This was very time-consuming and I basically lost more than an hour trying to make it work on my Windows computer.

Desktop and Mobile Apps

Speaking of which, FastestVPN offers an easy-to-use application for Windows and Mac. Its app looks somewhat dated, but the interface looks fairly decent, with a server list on the left and the connection button on the right side of the app.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (52)

The server list on the left is crafted beautifully. You can select Countries to see all server locations and you also have several types of servers, such as streaming and D-VPN, for example. Clicking on them displays more server locations where you can see their purpose.

For example, there’s a US server for streaming on Netflix, a UK server for unblocking UK-based streaming services, and so on. Connecting to a server location takes a single click of a mouse, which is where I first experienced major issues.

The VPN refused to connect 9/10 times for some reason, after which, the app simply froze and turned off. Only when I restarted the service, killed the process in Task Manager, and opened the app again, FastestVPN automatically connected me to the server I wanted previously.

In addition, the app messed up my internet connection more than a few times. I had to uninstall it completely to get my connection back, which even the support team member couldn’t explain. Another issue I had with the app was that I couldn’t open Settings.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (53)

It constantly said I was connected to a server when clearly, I was not (see screenshot above), and the Settings menu refused to open for that reason. Once again, I lost hours trying to reason it out with the support team agent but even he couldn’t fix the issue. Before you ask, I shared my subscription with a friend and he reported the same set of issues.

After FastestVPN updated the app not long ago, everything started working smoothly and I could finally access Settings. However, this shouldn’t have happened and the app should’ve worked well from the start since we’re talking about a full-fledged premium provider.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (54)

In this FastestVPN review, I can confidently say its application for Windows is not the best. While the app looks “okay” on the surface, on both Windows 10 and 11, we had a very bad experience with it, and I can conclude that it’s far from the best desktop VPN apps I’ve used. Therefore, I advise you to check our comparison of the best VPNs compatible with Windows 11 (as well as previous versions).

FastestVPN iOS App

After losing my nerves with the Windows app, I installed FastestVPN on my iPhone 13 Mini. Much to my surprise, everything worked well and I could finally open Settings to check for more features. The app even connected to servers with no issues, which was a pleasant surprise compared to my Windows experience.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (55)

As you can see, the mobile app looks fairly similar to its desktop counterpart, having the same blue interface with similar buttons and everything. I’m very satisfied with FastestVPN’s iOS app but I’m not sure Windows users will enjoy it. It’s not about polish – it simply was NOT functional before the update.

Thankfully, the update fixed the majority of the issues and the app now works relatively well.

TV Apps

Now, what about users who prefer using a VPN for different purposes? What if you want to use FastestVPN on your Fire TV Stick, Android Smart TV, Kodi, and other platforms? The good news is that the provider supports these platforms.

It even works on Apple TV thanks to router support, and there’s a native VPN app for Fire TV Stick which you can download from Amazon. As for the Android TV app, you can find it on Google Play – the same way you do on your Android smartphone.

Its TV apps work well, though, and you’ll most likely have no issues with them. Plus, if you’re browsing through FastestVPN’s site, you can download an APK file which you can transfer to your TV and install the app directly if you don’t want to use Google Play for whatever reason.

Gaming Apps

FastestVPN claims to be the best VPN for Xbox, PlayStation, and other gaming platforms. And while it does support Xbox and PlayStation consoles, I think that it’s far from being the best provider for them. For that purpose, ExpressVPN offers much more.

Either way, I’m glad that FastestVPN offers support for gaming consoles through routers and by sharing your VPN connection via your computer. The service, on the other hand, has no Smart DNS feature like ExpressVPN, so its compatibility with gaming consoles isn’t as quality.

Remember that Smart DNS allows you to use ExpressVPN’s DNS on your console, which benefits you in terms of streaming and unblocking restricted content without the need to fully set up a VPN. Here, you don’t have this luxury, which is a bit of a shame.

Router Support

In this FastestVPN review for 2024, I think I should point out that it supports routers as well. Its recommendation is to buy a VPN-compatible router and set up FastestVPN manually. But when you click on “Setup Guide” on the site, it points you to the section with the router selection.

You’ll have to visit the Help Center in this case where you can find setup guides for all of the supported routers. To be honest, the list is quite long and you can find models like Sabai, Linksys, DD-WRT, Asus, TP-Link, Tenda, Belkin, Tomato, and many more.

In this regard, I must praise FastestVPN for offering image-rich step-by-step guides for ALL router models it supports. And since it supports a lot of them, you most likely won’t have to buy a VPN-ready router because yours will be on the list.

Is FastestVPN Safe & Secure? All Security Features Examined!

With my negative experience with FastestVPN in terms of user experience and basic functionality, I wanted to give up on this provider. However, after realizing that it offers plenty of security features and seemingly great privacy, I made up my mind and decided to keep using it in order to offer you the most comprehensive review possible.

AES-256 Encryption

For the start, this provider has 256-bit AES encryption which is used on all VPN protocols. This is surely great to hear because we’re talking about the highest level of encryption used by some of the best providers, such as ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and CyberGhost.

Smart Tunneling

Smart Tunneling is a strange name for split tunneling given by FastestVPN. Regardless of the name, this feature will allow you to choose which part of your traffic to exclude from using a VPN if you don’t need to change your IP address and take advantage of additional protection.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (56)

This feature works only with domains, so you can’t add individual apps here. Instead, you click on the “Add” button and then type in or paste the address of the website you want to exclude from using a VPN. Just to remind you, I couldn’t access this feature on Windows because Settings were unavailable due to the annoying problem I had – and still have.

On iOS, this feature worked well and I was pleasantly surprised to see it on my iPhone. Many providers will offer this feature on Android and Windows, whereas, FastestVPN has it in its iOS/Android application – but only there, with no Smart Tunneling on Windows.

Internet Kill Switch

Another feature to mention in this FastestVPN review for 2024 is the internet kill switch. A kill switch is here to shut down your internet connection if you lose the connection to a VPN server, which preserves your IP and DNS addresses and keeps them private.

Since I had many connection issues with this provider, I’m sure the kill switch did its job well, keeping in mind my internet connection was disabled at least a dozen times. But once again, this feature wasn’t accessible to me on Windows, so I couldn’t do anything about it.

On mobile platforms, the kill switch is ON by default and since I had a few connection issues on my iPhone too – sadly – I can confirm it works as intended. Thank God it’s there because, with these issues, I’d have leaked my IP/DNS address at least 15 times so far.

However, as you’ll soon see in this FastestVPN review, the kill switch won’t do you much good because of one crucial flaw that has to do with unwanted IP leaks.

OpenVPN & IKEv2 VPN Protocols

Interestingly, FastestVPN offers WireGuard support, which I found very interesting. Its supported protocols include OpenVPN, WireGuard, IKEv2, IPSec, L2TP, and something called OpenConnect. The protocol selection isn’t great and we’re talking about outdated protocols for the most part.

Sure, WireGuard is here and it’s a good balance of performance and security. However, ExpressVPN’s Lightway comes with staggering speeds, stability, and privacy, and NordVPN’s NordLynx improves upon WireGuard significantly, so these are much more “modern” providers.

FastestVPN simply isn’t up to par with the “big boys” and it’ll need to modernize its apps and features to compete with the likes of NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

Anti-Malware Protection + Ad-Blocker

FastestVPN offers anti-malware protection in all of its plans but this feature isn’t in the app. It should, however, work in the background, and in conjunction with the NAT firewall, block malware that can harm your computer.

If I’m honest, I’m not sure if this is a gimmick or if you really get free malware protection. What I’m sure of is that its ad-blocker is here and it usually works well in blocking malicious sites on both mobile and desktop platforms. Albeit, I think that CyberSec in NordVPN does a much better job in this regard.

ExpressVPN’s Advanced Protection is a much finer addition too, especially with Parental Control which lets you block adult and gambling sites. In FastestVPN, this advanced protection, as said, is average and its effects are barely felt.

FastestVPN IP and DNS Leak Test: Leaks FOUND!

When talking about the security of a VPN service, having no IP and DNS leaks is pretty much everything that matters. If your IP and DNS addresses are leaking, you’re doing nothing for your privacy. Unfortunately, I had issues with FastestVPN this time, as the leaks were indeed present.

I connected to a Bulgarian server, and after needing to restart the app before I finally connected, I decided to visit ipleak.net to check my IP and DNS addresses. In the screenshot below, you can see that the provider leaked both my IP and DNS addresses, which I had to conceal for obvious reasons.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (57)

To make sure the results stay consistent, I used another site called browserleaks.com. I run a test for IP/DNS leaks and you can see the poor and quite concerning results in the screenshot below:

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (58)

FastestVPN is one of the rare VPNs that actually displayed IP and DNS leaks on this level. Just to make it clear, it leaked my IPv6 address plus several DNS addresses, which have been concealed in both screenshots.

This means that the provider has no IPv6/DNS leak protection, which, once again, is VERY concerning if you live in a censored country with surveillance and you want to stay anonymous all the time. FastestVPN can’t, therefore, guarantee your safety online 100%.

Does It Have a No-Logging Policy?

If there’s one thing that impressed me in this FastestVPN review, it’s this VPN’s focus on privacy – at least in terms of logging. I mean, if you can get over its annoying Windows app and tons of connection issues, underneath, you’ll discover a VPN provider that actually respects your privacy – hooray!

The provider is based in a unique location – the Cayman Islands. I’m sure you know this location by its beautiful beaches and blazing-hot temperatures ideal for spending the whole day in the water and drinking endless amounts of Margaritas.

That’s not all. The Cayman Islands also don’t have mandatory data-retention laws, which means that FastestVPN can maintain its no-logging policy without the government interfering or requesting any user-related information.

Which Information Isn’t Stored?

This brings us to the privacy policy, which is short and concise. FastestVPN won’t collect data like your browsing history, visited sites, VPN IP address, connection entries, and timestamps. In addition, the provider stores no logs of your DNS requests, which is yet another important piece of information.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (59)

With that said, it’s clear that FastestVPN can’t track you online and it can’t infringe on your privacy. It stores no compromising information on its servers, so even if the authorities request it to hand out anything, it’ll come out empty-handed.

Which Information Is Stored?

When talking about the information that is stored, we can see some standard things. For example, email and billing information are on this list, and so are troubleshoot-related bits of information needed for the service to function properly.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (60)

For maintenance purposes, FastestVPN will monitor the amount of used bandwidth but this information can’t be used to track you online. Besides, the provider lets you request the deletion of every bit of information about you, which is great if you want to keep a “clean slate” regarding your privacy.

The only issue is that it has no third-party security audits, so we have to trust it blindly on everything we saw in the privacy policy. But so far, we haven’t heard of a single incident with this provider, so I’m sure it’ll stick to its claims for the time being.

FastestVPN for Streaming: Netflix & Other Platforms TESTED

Having a VPN that’s capable of streaming opens up the possibility of accessing geo-restricted content regardless of your location. This luxury usually comes with premium providers, such as ExpressVPN or even CyberGhost, with its special dedicated streaming servers.

This time, FastestVPN offers streaming servers as well and they’re scattered across several popular countries, such as the UK, the US, India, Japan, Canada, and Italy. These servers should be optimized for bypassing geo-restrictions and unblocking popular platforms.

Unfortunately, I found that they aren’t working properly for two reasons. The first reason is purely technical. I mean, when I tried to connect to the UK streaming server, the app froze once again, shut down by itself, and I had to re-open it manually.

Only then, FastestVPN reconnected to the server I wanted which is where we come to the second problem. This server didn’t work for unblocking UK-based streaming services, although it managed to unblock a few TV channels from this country.

The same trend continues with other servers here. The US streaming server gave me the same problems – both technical and in terms of poor streaming capabilities. The Japanese server was very slow for me and it didn’t work for unblocking streaming platforms in Japan.

Overall, the streaming servers in FastestVPN are all but useful and I think they’re placeholders made just to make you think that the provider offers something more advanced. In reality, they’re not great, which makes it easy to recommend CyberGhost’s streaming servers that work in comparison.

Speed Tests: Here’s How Fast FastestVPN Really Is

FastestVPN’s name is self-explanatory – it’s simply the fastest VPN! Or is it? How come many people never heard of it if it’s the fastest provider? Well, that’s because it isn’t! The fastest provider is ExpressVPN, which I already explained in my ExpressVPN review for 2024.

In this FastestVPN review, however, I had a pretty rough time with the service, as doing the speed tests with it was a complete waste of time. In the end, after a million connection issues, I managed to get the results which I’ll discuss soon.

First, let me introduce you to my testing parameters. As always, I tested FastestVPN for 3 days in a row, 3 times a day, across 4 server locations. I used servers in the UK, the US, Australia, and Japan and I’m located in Eastern Europe, to give you a clearer image.

When not using a VPN, my internet speeds look like this:

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (61)

And now, let’s check the speed test results after using FastestVPN:

UK:

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (62)

US:

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (63)

Australia:

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (64)

Japan:

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (65)

As you can see, my complaints weren’t in vain and connection issues definitely took a toll on the overall performance. The UK server, as always, showed decent performance but nothing extraordinary, especially compared to ExpressVPN or NordVPN.

As soon as I started connecting to servers overseas, I saw a massive speed drop, even on the US server. I reached critically low speeds when using Australian and Japanese servers, where the decrease in upload/download speeds and drastic increase in ping hindered my experience a lot.

This made watching YouTube videos sluggish and quite irritating. Not to mention painfully long page-loading times which came as a result of 250+ ms pings. Overall, it’s far from being great – I expected a lot more from FastestVPN.

Is FastestVPN Good for Gaming?

Having this performance in place, you’d be wrong to think that this VPN is good for gaming. If you’re using a server in your country, chances are that you’ll enjoy gaming properly, but the problem is FastestVPN’s small server fleet, which means you might not find that server.

I was surprised to see that the provider has 10 Gbps servers because my gaming performance was poor in any case. Sure, the server in the UK was somewhat decent, for example, but I occasionally had big ping spikes, which appeared at the worst possible moments, ruining my sessions completely.

God forbid connecting to a server on another continent. In this case, playing even slow-paced games like ARMA 3 will not be enjoyable, let alone Fortnite and Modern Warfare 2 which run at neck-breaking speeds and high framerates.

Cloud gaming with FastestVPN is also not recommended. Nvidia GeForce Now and PlayStation Now will work like something that goes out of your backside (I won’t say that word) and the input lag is very noticeable, rendering the entire experience unworthy of your time.

Can I Use FastestVPN for P2P and Torrenting?

In this FastestVPN review, I found that the provider doesn’t offer P2P-optimized servers. This usually isn’t a problem and means that you can use every server on the list to download torrents. Since I’m located in Eastern Europe, I found a server in Bulgaria – it’s very close to me.

Once I connected to it after waiting 5-6 seconds, FastestVPN gave me a new IP address, so I went ahead, visited 1337x, and wanted to download Linux Mint. Much to my surprise, everything worked well, as FastestVPN allowed me to download the file with no issues.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (66)

The connection to this server was also smooth and I didn’t have to restart the app or do anything silly to make it work. This was a pleasant change from the rest of my FastestVPN review and the provider even showed more than decent performance while downloading Linux.

However, make sure you always connect to the closest server for this type of activity. Connecting to a server that is 1,000+ kilometers away won’t do you good and will degrade your performance with no additional security benefits.

Is It Working in China & Other Censored Countries?

When talking about using a VPN in China, we come to a big obstacle where many popular VPNs fail. In my CyberGhost test, I mentioned that this provider is among the best choices, yet, even this giant fails to bypass the Great Firewall of China.

Keep in mind that CyberGhost is miles ahead of FastestVPN in every aspect, so it’s still a much better choice. FastestVPN offers several basic protocols to choose from and it does nothing to jump out of that mediocrity. What about obfuscation?

As you can guess, it’s not there, meaning that it can’t mask your VPN traffic, making it a bad choice for overcoming censorship. To make sure this is the case, I lent my FastestVPN subscription to a friend in Shangai and he told me that he couldn’t use the VPN at all there!

In Hong Kong, a less-censored region of China, the provider worked well, which is to be expected. However, in China, my friend couldn’t make it work, especially because he, as well had the EXACT same issue with not being able to open Settings and change the protocol he was using.

In other censored countries, FastestVPN will work. These countries include the UAE, Russia, and even Turkey when it isn’t strictly imposing restrictions on VPNs during civil unrest. But on a grand scale, this is a poor choice for getting over censorship and you shouldn’t consider it.

Instead, try ExpressVPN. This service works in China 10/10 times and offers obfuscation, which makes it usable anywhere, all with top-grade performance and speeds.

Servers and Server Locations: Here’s How Big FastestVPN Is

Being a less popular company, in this FastestVPN test for 2024, I was expecting to see a smaller server fleet. And boy, was I right! When opening its application and checking the server list, you can already see this unimpressive server park.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (67)

In total, the provider offers 49 countries to pick from and you get around 70+ locations. Of course, servers in the US are the most ubiquitous, and in other countries, you get 1-3 server locations in the best-case scenario.

On the server list, you’ll find the aforementioned streaming servers but also servers called D-VPN. I admit that I was sleepy at the time of testing it and at first, I didn’t realize these were Double VPN servers that we had in NordVPN.

Here, you get just 3 options – France via the UK, the USA via the Netherlands, and the UK via the USA. These servers will double your encryption by routing your traffic through the two server locations, which will degrade your performance slightly but you’ll get more security.

You noticed that I haven’t talked about the server number and that’s because it wasn’t mentioned on the site. After a while when FastestVPN included the number on its page, I managed to find out that it offers 800+ worldwide servers, which is a huge disappointment after using CyberGhost with 11,000+ servers and NordVPN with 6,000+ servers.

Customer Support: How to Contact FastestVPN for Help?

FastestVPN comes with 24/7 customer support through live chat. I must admit that it’s one of the fastest support teams I’ve encountered, which might boil down to a smaller user base.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (68)

There’s email support on the site too and I like that even this means of support is easy to reach and communicate with. When it comes to written support, you get an FAQ section with 20+ answered questions but these are usually pretty basic.

However, I like its Blog section which sees frequent updates, with new articles published almost every day. In addition, FastestVPN offers a big knowledge base with VPN setup tutorials, step-by-step guides, and everything needed to make the VPN work.

With all of this in place, how come I couldn’t fix the issue I had in this FastestVPN review? Well, because the support team isn’t the most helpful. As I mentioned, I talked to a support agent for more than 30 minutes trying to figure out why Settings won’t open.

He guided me through the process but kept repeating the same solutions over again, such as restarting the Fastest VPN process, restarting my PC, and logging in and out of the app. Yet, I couldn’t even log out because the Profile menu won’t open, saying “Disconnect a VPN first” when I’m already disconnected!

When I said to the support team agent that this VPN messed up my internet connection, he gave me one original answer – “Ok”. Still, he tried to help me by sending me a link to download a setup file, which when installed, didn’t work.

In this case, the app failed to open completely and wouldn’t let me access the internet until I uninstalled it. Despite being fast to respond, as you can see, I had a bad experience with the support team which couldn’t fix my issue, the same issue that several of my acquaintances had with the same VPN!

FastestVPN Pricing

My FastestVPN review is slowly coming to an end, so it’s time to see how much this VPN costs. Without a doubt, we’re talking about an affordable VPN. And while being affordable is great, the goal of having low prices shouldn’t inherently be to provide low-quality service.

If you take a look at Surfshark, this provider is extremely cheap but it’s better than some of its more expensive rivals. FastestVPN is cheap, but it’s better than some free providers only. Let’s check out its pricing and discuss it in this review.

FastestVPN Review 2024: Is This Service Good Enough? (69)

The highlight of this provider is its Lifetime plan. This plan is extremely cheap at $40. Just to make it clear, a Lifetime plan is charged once and you get to use the subscription forever. I’m very suspicious about Lifetime plans as they’ve proven to be scams multiple times.

This especially rings true when talking about very chap Lifetime plans like this one. A quality VPN will never hand out this type of subscription like that because it knows it’s worth more money. FastestVPN, on the other hand, has very affordable prices – even more than CyberGhost.

For example, its annual plan costs just $1.66 a month or $19.95 a year, which is the cheapest annual plan I’ve ever seen in a VPN. The monthly plan at $5 is also affordable, as in most cases, this plan will cost you from $10 to $15 on average.

Needless to say, despite this price, I don’t recommend buying FastestVPN due to everything I said in my review. You can check out CyberGhost instead and if you don’t mind paying more for the best VPN in 2024, check out ExpressVPN’s 49% discount and 3 free months for the annual plan.

Dedicated IP Price

FastestVPN includes a bonus feature in the form of dedicated IP addresses. When purchasing the VPN, you can buy one for $1.49 a month. However, dedicated IPs are offered only in the US, Russia, and Germany. This is far below what CyberGhost offers.

CyberGhost’s dedicated IPs are priced similarly but you can choose from way over 10 locations. While not the best dedicated IP VPN, we’re glad that FastestVPN includes this option, unlike some more expensive rivals.

Port Forwarding Price

In our FastestVPN review, we haven’t mentioned that you can purchase port forwarding. However, at $1.2 a month, we think it’s expensive. VPNs with this feature usually won’t charge you additionally for it.

Instead, they’ll include it in the subscription. If you want to enjoy this feature properly, you can use Hide.me’s dynamic port forwarding instead. Although, PIA VPN offers it as well, and from our experience, it works rather well for torrent downloads.

Available Payment Methods

FastestVPN won’t offer a ton of payment methods but the ones I found were useful enough. You get to pay with a credit card, PayPal, and even crypto, which includes Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin.

Crypto payments are realized via NowPayments and you can add more Multi Logins i.e. simultaneous connections for $4/connection regardless of the payment method. Keep in mind you can add up to 10 more Multi Logins.

With the 10 connections you get by default, you can purchase 10 more, which will be $40 a month on top of the subscription. Albeit, we don’t think you’ll need more than 10 except if you’re running a small company. In that case, you surely won’t use FastestVPN.

How to Get a Refund from FastestVPN?

One great thing about this FastestVPN review for 2024 is that you can easily get a refund. Alas, only in the first 15 days of your purchase. Other providers that I mentioned offer at least a 30-day refund period and CyberGhost even bumps it up to 45 days.

Here, you get 15 days to test out the VPN, which is still enough to see that it’s not worth your hard-earned buck. There aren’t any specific conditions either so if you don’t like it, simply contact the VPN through live chat, request a refund, and go on about your day.

The refunds are processed immediately and depending on the payment method you used, you’ll get your money back in a few minutes, hours, or days.

What We Don’t Like About FastestVPN?

Judging by our FastestVPN test for 2024, we can see that there’s a lot to dislike about this provider. Something I don’t like is the overall user experience, which made me waste hours of my precious time trying to make the app work properly on Windows.

While other apps function just fine, the provider still has issues with connectivity, slow speeds, poor streaming capabilities, and the lack of support for advanced features. After the update, the app improved significantly but everything I experienced with it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

In addition, the provider offers a small server fleet of just 800 or so servers in 49 countries, which many people, including me, will find underwhelming. This is accompanied by its inability to work in China due to the lack of obfuscation – a feature present in ExpressVPN and NordVPN.

Plus, its customer support wasn’t very helpful for me because, after many attempts to make my Windows VPN app function, I just ended up losing time and had to review this provider after an update which made the app function somewhat properly.

How Do Other People Rate FastestVPN?

Before putting an end to this FastestVPN review, let’s check out the ratings of this service on other websites. Trustpilot is one of the best places to do so, and here, the provider has 4.1 stars with a little under 500 reviews in total.

The reviews are mixed, and while some users praised customer service, others complained about typical connection problems. One user even stated that this VPN isn’t working in Iran (to find a service that can help you, check out our list of VPNs that still work in Iran) and many people just deemed this service a scam.

On the Apple Store, FastetVPN has a rating of 3.4 stars and just above 300 reviews. People usually praise this provider for the good-looking iOS app, while at the same time, many of them complain about connection stability and the fact that the IKEv2 protocol isn’t working correctly.

Lastly, Android users on Google Play gave it the lowest ranking of 2.9 stars out of 2.3K reviews at the time of writing. Once again, they praised some recent improvements while others complained about unreliable connections and a small server network.

Conclusion: Promises a Lot, Delivers Very Little

As is the case with every test, this FastestVPN review for 2024 must come to an end. With all the exhausting tests we did, it’s obvious that this provider comes with promises it fails to fulfill. The most notable red flag is its functionality or lack thereof.

This provider offers among the worst Windows apps I’ve ever used, and with so many problems I had with it, I’m surprised I could make it function for this review. FastestVPN has a few good things going for it, such as a privacy-friendly jurisdiction, a no-logs policy, and great device support.

On top of that, it offers 10 simultaneous connections, Double VPN servers, and P2P support for downloading torrents. Sadly, everything else nullifies these good things about it and so we get almost no streaming capabilities, a very small server network, and poor connection stability.

FastestVPN offers fairly slow speeds too and its customer support failed to meet my expectations in terms of helpfulness. Besides, while the provider comes with a cheap Lifetime plan, it’s vital to mention that you won’t be able to use it in the most censored countries.

With that said, I can confidently say that FastestVPN isn’t a provider I will recommend at any point, except if it miraculously improves its service and fixes all of the issues. Until then, my recommendations stay the same – ExpressVPN and CyberGhost.

These two providers are in another realm in terms of performance, security, streaming, servers, and everything else. Despite being more expensive, I think it’s good to pay even slightly more and get a product that’ll actually serve its purpose without irritating problems.

FAQ

Let us explain a few more things related to FastestVPN and our review.

Is the FastestVPN Chrome extension worth it?

No, it’s not. This is a poorly performing extension with frequent disconnects and connection problems. It claims to be good for streaming on the site but according to our tests, it’s all but. Even on the Google Chrome Store, it has just 2.8 out of 5 stars, which speaks volumes.

If you’re after a Chrome VPN, it’s better to get Surfshark or ExpressVPN.

FastestVPN vs NordVPN, which one to get?

NordVPN. This is a much better VPN overall, with no app-breaking bugs and connection problems. Streaming, security, privacy, and torrenting – everything will be ten times better. Not to mention obfuscation, which NordVPN has and FastestVPN lacks.

Is FastestVPN Lifetime legit?

So far, it is. At around $40 paid once, you can enjoy FastestVPN for as long as the company exists. However, your enjoyment will be questionable given the app’s poor overall performance in every regard.
