Aston Villa favorites to complete Arsenal transfer and two more deals

Aston Villa’s summer transfer business has already kicked off with the arrival of Emiliano Buendia for a club record amount from Norwich City earlier this month.

Ashley Young has also joined Villa, returning to second city a decade after leaving for Manchester United.

Villa has also been linked with a move for a striker with Tammy Abraham and Chris Wood of Chelsea and Burnley respectively, both of whom are said to be under consideration at Villa Park.

Midfielders James Ward-Prowse and Sander Berge are also linked with moves to Villa as they could strengthen at center-back with the addition of former lender Axel Tuanzebe, who is made available for the transfer by Manchester United.

The window took a turn on Friday when reports claimed Manchester City wanted to firm their interest with a £ 100million transfer for captain Jack Grealish.

Villa, owned by billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, does not want or need to sell Grealish when the player has not expressed a desire to leave.

Either way, Villa will be looking to add an extra player or two to the window ahead of a 2021-22 season bursting with ambition.

And we took a look at which players bookmaker SkyBet is supporting Villa to sign …

James Ward-Prowse – 5/2 Favorite Villas

Ward-Prowse is one of the latest names to be linked with Villa as Smith’s men look to add proven talent in England.

Southampton’s free-kick specialist is 5/2 with SkyBet, making Villa favorites with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, both in contention, but at much longer odds.

Villa would make a real declaration of intent by disembarking Ward-Prowse, but the player will cost a pretty penny.

He is under contract at St Mary’s until 2025.

Dwight McNeil – 3/1 Favorite Villas

McNeil is set to be a hot property this summer after impressing Burnley, who was recently taken over by an American consortium keen to back Turf Moor boss Sean Dyche in the transfer market.

Villa could do with reinforcements on the wing and reports have linked Smith’s side with a move for the ex-Man United youngster.

It would be expensive and Burnley would be reluctant to sell to a side they would see as direct rivals, with the club’s new owners seeking Premier League rankings after surviving relegation this season.

McNeil scored once and assisted another in a 3-2 loss to Villa in January.

Emile Smith Rowe – 6/1 Favorite Villas

Smith Rowe has been linked with a move to Villa this summer.

Smith’s side have seen a £ 25million offer for the Arsenal starlet rejected and are expected to try again.

Smith Rowe is under contract until 2023 and Arsenal are keen to tie him to a new deal.

The 20-year-old has had a great breakout season in 2020-21.

Ruben Loftus-Joue – 7/2

Villa has once again been linked with a move for Loftus-Cheek, with the Chelsea player looking certain to leave Stamford Bridge this summer and bookie SkyBet has him as his second favorite to sign or on Smith’s side.

Loftus-Cheek returns to Chelsea after a loan spell with Fulham, his second stint away from his parent club, which ended in relegation with Scott Parker’s side.

It is claimed that Villa, who was credited with an interest with Loftus-Cheek last summer, wants to sign him in a double blow with former lender Abraham.

Loftus-Cheek, 25, made 31 appearances for Fulham last season.

Tammy Abraham – 7/2

Abraham has been heavily linked with a move to Villa.

Reports in the national press claim the England international is a target for West Ham United and Villa.

Abraham looks set to leave Stamford Bridge after losing favor to Thomas Tuchel, and the 23-year-old has scored 26 goals for Villa on loan for the 2018-19 season.

Oddly enough, Villa is behind Manchester United vying with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team 11/4 to land Abraham.

Neco Williams – 9/2

Williams is expected to be sold by Liverpool this summer.

The Welsh international, center-back, is linked with a move to Villa.

Williams is currently with Wales on international service at the European Championships.

Liverpool will seek to raise funds by selling the 20-year-old for around £ 10million.

Conor Gallagher – 7/1

Gallagher, like Pereira, was with West Brom last season but only on loan from Chelsea.

Gallagher has impressed Albion at times with the playmaker advancing from the Championship last season, where he went on loan to Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.

An attacking midfielder, Gallagher might be a good fit for Villa, but is perhaps too inconsistent for the level Smith is aiming for.

Reports in the national press have claimed Gallagher is attracting interest from Crystal Palace.

Matheus Pereira – 7/1

Pereira set to leave West Bromwich Albion after relegation from Premier League

Pereira scored 11 times in the Premier League last season, recording six assists.

These are good numbers in a struggling squad and Villa fans have given Villa head coach Dean Smith and sporting director Johan Lange the go-ahead for a deal.

Villa could sign a Premier League-ready striker for a relatively modest price at Pereira.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 8/1

Oxlade-Chamberlain are on the sidelines of Liverpool, having started just twice in 12 games last season.

Under contract until 2023, the former Arsenal midfielder could be a player Liverpool look to sell this summer to raise funds for further transfers.

He remains keen to stay at Liverpool however, saying last month: “I kicked myself, tried to push and ask questions but sometimes it doesn’t always work out your way.

“The main thing is that I stay focused. I’m absolutely delighted to be a part of this team and to play for this football club, and that’s what I want to do. “

Odsonne Edouard – 8/1

Edward has been heavily linked with a move to Villa as Celtic prepares to cash in on their best asset.

The France Under-21 international has scored in goals at Parkhead, scoring 83 times in 168 appearances including 22 last season.

Edward looks likely to reunite with former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, but he could be a useful addition to Smith’s squad.

However, Edward, who has been backed in eight since 1/16, has not been tested at Premier League level.

Ryan Kent – 8/1

Kent, a winger, has just won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers.

Kent was wanted by Leeds United before moving to Liverpool Rangers almost two years ago, initially on loan.

He sent links to Elland Road after securing the 55th Rangers title.

“It’s good to be linked to other football clubs, the big clubs, but you have to understand the duty of where you are and as long as I am at Rangers I will always give 100% to the club,” he said.

Aaron Ramsey – 12/1

Some Villa fans have offered a move for Ramsey after Wales performed well against Turkey last week.

Ramsey has struggled since joining Juventus on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2019.

He spent time on injury and has now had three different managers in Turin.

Ramsey recently spoke about his future and hinted at a potential return to English football.

Daniel James – 12/1

James is also a winger and is not in favor of Man United after a surprise move to Old Trafford two years ago.

James almost completed his transfer to Leeds from Swansea on deadline day in 2019, but the transfer failed and he joined United.

He struggled for playing time with Solskjaer’s side last season and only started 11 times in 2020-21.

The Welsh international has played 71 times during his time at United.

Callum Hudson-Odoi – 14/1

Hudson-Odoi looks set to leave Chelsea as they try to raise money for another summer madness.

Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Braut Haaland is linked with a sensational move to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Achraf Hakimi at Inter Milan is also being watched by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea and money is expected to be generated for the pair.

Hudson-Odoi could be allowed to leave, but it would be a huge shock if he found himself in Villa.

Bernardo Silva – 16/1

Bernardo’s name appears to have been brought into the conversation after reports suggested he could line up for a Manchester City departure this summer.

It has been claimed that the Portugal international may be allowed to leave the Etihad stadium as Pep Guardiola’s side look to make room for the Villa Grealish captain.

Bernardo, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling have all been linked with City withdrawals.

Atletico Madrid seem most likely to land Bernardo.

Ross Barkley – 20/1

Barkley spent last season on loan at Villa.

The former Everton star started his stay at Villa in great shape, winning Liverpool’s 7-2 beat and Leicester’s 1-0 victory.

However, his form weakened after a hamstring injury and he failed to regain what Villa fans saw earlier in the season.

A move in the summer seemed likely and even a coup, but now Villa is not expected to sign it definitively.

James Maddison – 33/1

This one will not happen.

That didn’t stop SkyBet from listing Villa as one of Maddison’s potential destinations, however.

Arsenal and Chelsea are said to be interested in the England international this summer.

Man United, Man City and Tottenham also have chances of signing the player – not bad company for Villa, is it?
