Chandigarh: now get a 20% discount on property tax until July 31

The UT administration on Thursday extended the deadline for filing property tax with refunds from May 31 to July 31.

In his order, Nitin Kumar Yadav, Chandigarh Local Government Secretary, said: “As per the proposal submitted by the Municipality, dated May 24, the UT Administrator is pleased to extend the due date for property tax filing with refund. , for both commercial and residential properties, for a two-month period ending July 31.

MC will provide a 20% rebate to residential property taxpayers and 10% to commercial entities if tax for the 2022-23 fiscal year is filed by July 31.

Thereafter, the civic organization will impose a penalty of 25%, together with 12% interest, on the tax due, without rebate.

“Before MC sends property tax bills, eligible taxpayers can also pay their property tax through a self-assessment,” an MC official said.

Since the start of the fiscal year in April, the company has collected 24.40 crore as property tax.

The city has about 1.36 lakh of assessed land, including 1.06 residential and 30,000 commercial. But so far only 48,000 have paid the tax.

The tax can be paid online on MC’s website “http://mcchandigarh.gov.in” or on mobile app “Im Chandigarh”.

Residents can also make payment physically at Sampark centers by sight draft, check or cash.
