MPs post message in Derby County as they support fan-led football review
The momentum behind the Fan Review of Football has received a boost with 52 MPs throwing their support behind Fair Game’s campaign to ensure the review’s recommendations are fully implemented.
The review, led by former Sports Minister Tracey Crouch MP, includes 47 recommendations which would incorporate financial sustainability, good governance, equality standards and appropriate fan and community engagement in the national game, all under the watchful eye of a new, fully independent regulator. .
The Review has the full support of Fair Game, a coalition of 34 professional clubs campaigning to improve the governance of football. MPs all responded to a call from Fair Game and its supporters to attend a two-hour walk-in session in Westminster and publicly endorse the review.
That was the main focus of the first week of fair play. Over the past seven days, Fair Game’s 34 clubs have tweeted, produced videos, printed program announcements and posted messages on their big screens, urging all fans to contact their MPs.
A number of MPs highlighted Derby County’s plight. The Rams remain in administration after seven months and there are concerns about the club’s future. Chris Kirchner has been named the directors’ preferred bidder and the American businessman is working to finalize a takeover of the club.
