Gary Neville doesn’t change Man United title prediction despite Cristiano Ronaldo move

Gary Neville has praised Manchester United’s signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, but still believes they won’t win the Premier League title this season.

United got a superb blow for Ronaldo on deadline day in a move that cost the club £ 12.9million plus an additional £ 6.8million in potential additions to bring him in from Juventus.

The return has boosted the atmosphere around the club, with many fans and pundits now expecting the club to challenge the silverware after also signing Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer. But former United skipper Neville, speaking to Sky Sports, believes the title may still be out of their reach despite the excellent window.

“I don’t think United will have to adjust too much when he arrives,” Neville said.

“They have fantastic forwards, great creative players too, with Jadon Sancho off, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood they should create plenty of chances for him.

“The performances so far, they have really struggled in their two away games, but they have a number of players who can win a game in an instant.”

On Ronaldo he said: “His will and desire to score goals is better than anyone. The big question is whether it’s enough to win the title. I don’t think that’s the case, the Premier League has been the strongest since the mid-2000s.

“I think for Manchester United he’s an incredible addition to their team, United needed a center-forward, but in terms of physicality he’s almost 28, 29, 30 when you look at him. People will look at a young Cristiano and think about how he used to beat five or six players in wide areas, he’s more efficient now.

“If today’s Cristiano Ronaldo was here eight years ago, he would still be called a world-class player. His movement in the box, his ability to score goals, his composure in front of goal and his grip of risk still make it world class – and far from the hill. “
