Aadhar Update: The Aadhaar card, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI. The 12-digit number has become an essential part of every Indian citizen’s identity. The Aadhaar, with its growing importance, has become one of the most sought after identity documents. It is a trusted source that acts as proof of citizen address, date of birth and others making it mandatory for everyone to possess it. If the card is also linked to the mobile phone number, the facility will allow users to log into certain government-run web portals to avail the services. Therefore, it is advised to always update your latest mobile number on Aadhaar.
How to Update or Add Mobile Number in Aadhaar
If you have not registered your mobile number in Aadhaar or wish to change your current mobile number, you can do so easily by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Kendra. The process does not require any additional documents other than your Aadhaar card. All you need to do is fill out an update request form and perform biometric authentication for the process.
Here’s how to locate you nearest Aadhaar Kendra
You can locate the nearest Aadhaar Kendra by visiting uidai.gov.in or using the mAadhaar app. You can also call the helpline number 1947 to find the nearest Aadhaar center.
How to update mobile number in Aadhaar
To protect the data of Aadhaar users, UIDAI has abolished the updating of mobile numbers online in Aadhaar cards. The only way to do that now is to visit an Aadhaar center.
You need to go to the nearest Aadhaar center and fill in a form requesting to update your Aadhaar database with the new mobile number. The application will be submitted with a fee of Rs 50. You will need to verify your identity through biometric verification. However, you can download the change/update your mobile number request form and save time at the center.
You will then receive a unique reference number which can be used to check the status of your application on the mAadhaar app or the official UIDAI website.
In case your new mobile number is already entered into Aadhaar database along with another individual’s data, you will get a pop-up informing you the same while tracking.
Once your request has been processed, you can use your new registration number to change various other details if necessary.
“The activation of Aadhaar for various services such as government and non-government services, grants, pensions, scholarships, benefits, banking services, insurance services, tax services, l education, employment, healthcare, etc., makes it essential to ensure that the resident’s Aadhaar data stored in CIDR is accurate and up-to-date,” the UIDAI website states.
