Outdoors: Enjoy Nature This Holiday Season With MDC’s Free Mobile Apps (12/29/21)

Families can experience nature and plan outdoor activities with ease using the free MO Outdoors app, available for download through Google Play for Android devices or the App Store for Apple devices.

MO Hunting, MO Fishing, and Missouri Conservationist Magazine are available for download through Google Play for Android devices or the App Store for Apple devices.

With most students home for vacation, families now have the option of more outdoor activities, and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) offers a free mobile app, MO Outdoors, to help with planning. .

?? We made it easier to find places to go out and discover nature, ?? AJ Hendershott, the regional supervisor for MDC Education, said. ?? Anyone with a cell phone can easily find the conservation areas closest to them with full information on what is available. ??

MO Outdoors uses mobile location data to show users the conservation areas closest to their location. Users can see where they have quick access to fishing access, hiking trails, birding sites, nature centers and shooting ranges.

?? Based on the types of outdoor activities desired like bird watching, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting or shooting, users can search for what is closest to home, to work or even find something quickly when traveling. said Hendershott.

Users can also add locations to their favorites to quickly find them in future searches. MO Outdoors also connects users to area regulations and seasonal information, hours of operation, images, area closures, and interactive maps of area boundaries and features.

The map function displays features such as parking lots, boat launches and wildlife viewing areas, and allows users to easily navigate to the features using their device’s GPS. Users can also download maps for offline use. Hendershott said these features make it easier for families to experience nature together.

?? This app is useful for everyone, but as the school holidays approach, it’s a tool parents can use to help them plan that extra family hike while the kids are out of school,? ? said Hendershott. ?? Outdoor activities are a great reason to bring the family together for some quality time.

MO Outdoors and other free MDC apps ?? MO Hunting, MO Fishing and MO Con Mag ?? are available for download through Google Play for Android devices or the App Store for Apple devices.
