Is Apple coming out with a smart ring? ›

While Electronic Times said that Apple is seriously considering a smart ring, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman claimed in February that Apple is not actively developing a finger-worn device at this time.

Samsung debuts a 'smart ring' with health-tracking features — its first foray into the product category. Samsung's Galaxy Ring, its latest wearable, is launching with tracking features including heart rate and sleep monitoring.

The ring, expected to be on sale in late summer 2024, will be able to monitor the user's health parameters and provide insights based on the health metrics observed, which is very similar to what a smartwatch can do.

The so-called Apple Watch X, which may debut in 2024 or 2025, could reportedly have a thinner design, a new mechanism for attaching bands, a microLED screen and blood pressure monitoring, Bloomberg says.

But other smart rings, like the Oura Ring, Evie Ring and Ultrahuman Ring Air typically cost between $269 and $350, depending on the model. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Galaxy Ring fall somewhere within that range.

Samsung Galaxy Ring: Possible health features

The Galaxy Ring will boast a range of health-monitoring tech, including possibly an ECG sensor and a sensor for “blood flow measurements,” as reported by ETNews. It will also monitor the quality of a user's sleep.

The process of mining diamonds or creating the lab diamonds and cutting them into the perfect shape for a ring is both labor-intensive and costly. Additionally, the price of gold, platinum, and other precious metals that are used to make engagement rings also contributes to their high cost.

Apple is reportedly developing new wearable devices, including AirPods with cameras, smart glasses, and a fitness ring. The smart glasses may serve as an alternative to AirPods, while the smart ring could cater to users focused on health and fitness.

As far as accuracy goes, the Oura Ring is just as accurate as any other fitness tracker, give or take a few variations. Compared with my Apple Watch Series 8 and Whoop 4.0 band, the ring didn't record wildly different results for things like heart rate, stress levels, blood oxygen or sleep.
