Winter Adventures skill plans

IXL Winter Adventures returns to provide students with a fun educational experience for the winter season! The Winter Adventures plans offer 20 days of IXL skills, challenges, and offline activities to keep students learning while it’s cold outside. Just as last year, Winter Adventures is available for math and ELA in kindergarten through grade 8. You can assign skills directly from the plans and track learner progress using Analytics, or print them out as a PDF.

Easy access to qualified tutors

A new Wyzant tutor module now appears beneath skills for users with IXL Family Memberships, as well as guest users on the IXL website. This gives students and parents who want some extra help learning at home an easy way to connect with tutors while they’re working on skills and lessons!

Clicking on the Wyzant module will open a list of tutors specializing in the grade level and subject you were just viewing on IXL, and from there you can select a tutor and purchase a tutoring session if you like. Students, teachers and admins on classroom, district, and site license accounts will not see this module.

Featuring the largest community of professional tutors in the U.S., Wyzant’s tutors can offer 1:1 expertise on a host of subjects spanning educational, extracurricular, and professional needs for children and adults.

The new Wyzant module helps parents and students find the perfect tutor right when they need support. See it in action by going to an IXL skill and scrolling down below the practice area and in-skill recommendations.

Feature updates

Copy IXL Quizzes

IXL Quizzes let teachers create custom assessments for their classes, and now teachers can copy their own quizzes! This makes it easier for teachers to reuse quizzes, whether they assign the same quiz to different classes, give students the chance to retake a quiz, or reuse a quiz later in the year when preparing for state assessments.

When teachers click “Copy quiz,” they will be taken to the quiz creation form populated with all of the questions from the copied quiz. From there, the teacher can make changes if they want to, and then go on to assign and publish it. Active quizzes, past quizzes, and quiz drafts can all be copied. Try it out by going to the Quizzes tab while signed into IXL.

IXL iOS app update

We’ve updated the IXL app for iOS devices, which adds several new features:

  • Recommendations wall on iPhones: The Recommendations wall is now available on the iPhone app! Students can use their iPhone app to browse skills picked just for them (though parents and teachers will still need to use the website to see their students’ recommendations).
  • CA/UK/AU ELA recommendations for iPad: Students in Canada, the UK, and Australia will now be able to see their recommended ELA skills in the iPad app.
  • Updated icons on iPad and iPhone: We’ve updated subject and practice icons on both the iPad and iPhone apps.

Navigation for international editions

We’ve updated the navigation on some international editions of IXL to make it easier to access all of the features we offer.

Here’s what we’ve added to all international English-language editions, including Canada, the UK, Australia, India, Ireland, Singapore, South Africa, and New Zealand:

  • My IXL tab for teachers: We’ve added a new tab called ‘My IXL’ for signed-in teachers. The My IXL tab is a teacher’s hub for using IXL in their classroom—it contains their teacher dashboard, roster, teaching tools, and resources to get started with IXL.
  • Hover menu: Several tabs in the navigation bar will display a dropdown menu when you hover over them with your mouse. This hover menu shows all of the pages and features that live in the tab, allowing users to easily see all of IXL’s offerings at a glance. We’ve added the hover menu to the following tabs:
    • Learning (for all users)
    • My IXL (only for teachers)
    • Analytics (only for teachers)

Additional releases

Math video tutorials for the Canada edition

Video tutorials are now available in the Canada edition of IXL! This initial release features over 300 videos covering more than 80% of the skills in grade 6. We will be adding more videos to the Canada edition in the coming months.

New math video tutorials

We’ve released new math video tutorials, including 11 new grade 3 math videos, 14 new geometry videos, and one new grade 4 video to expand our coverage in those grades. These videos cover topics such as completing the addition statement: up to three digits and proving similarity statements.

More math skills with Spanish support

We’ve expanded our Spanish-language support to include a few dozen new math skills in grades 5 through Geometry. These newly supported skills include Checkpoints about applying the Pythagorean theorem and comparing linear and exponential functions. They also include skills about solving multi-step multiplication problems with money and making relative frequency tables.
