DefExpo 2022 extended by one day; New mobile app launched today

According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, this application is a user-friendly interface for all matters related to the DefExpo-2022 which will again be in hybrid mode.

Ahead of DefExpo-2022, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday launched an interactive mobile app, which will help and support exhibitors, attendees and the media.

According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, this application is a user-friendly interface for all matters related to the DefExpo-2022 which will again be in hybrid mode. The event is taking place in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and has been extended for a day by the Minister of Defense as the show has generated a lot of interest. Previously, the show was from March 10-13 and now it will end on March 14, 2022.

The theme of the 12and edition of the DefExpo is “India-The Emerging Defense Manufacturing Hub”. A number of MoUs are expected to be signed in a “Bandhan ceremony”.

The decision to extend the event which has been dubbed ‘Path to Pride’ was made when Minister Rajnath Singh was reviewing the ongoing preparations for the show. He was informed of the virtual participants who could participate in seminars; Business-to-business meetings (B2B); product details; interact with exhibitors and representatives and support videos.

What will there be?

The inaugural ceremony will be held at Mahatma Mandir on March 10 and this venue will host several seminars related to defense manufacturing etc.

For the first time, the event is expected to show the country’s determination to be first among the first.

The indigenous technological and logistics force of the defense industry will be at the forefront, which will help industry, MSMEs and startups and serve as a platform for them to establish partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEM).

Keeping in mind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and focusing on the indigenous defense manufacturing sector, this year sees broader participation.

There will be an India pavilion and a Gujarat pavilion: and defense companies like: Ashok Leyland Ltd, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Mahindra Defense Systems Ltd, Armored Vehicles Nigam Ltd Avadi, Adani Defense System and Technologies Ltd Kalyani Group, Chennai, Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd., Cochin Shipyard, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, will attend and exhibit their products there.

Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), BrahMos Aerospace, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force will also be present.

Three-site format

There will be an exhibition at the Helipad Exhibition Center (HEC);

Events and seminars at the Mahatma Mandir Convention

Exhibition Center (MCEC) and live demonstration for general public at Sabarmati Riverfront.

Strict COVID protocols will be in place including: masking, contactless interactions, respiratory hygiene and more.

This app will be available on Android/iOS platforms.

It can help to get all information related to exhibitors, venue maps, speakers, directions, notifications for visitors and exhibitors. Various publications will also be available on this app.

There is additional functionality that will help share feedback, including managing delegate hospitality and cleanliness issues.

The Minister virtually reviewed the preparations for the 12and edition of the Expo which is considered Asia’s largest land, naval and interior security system exhibition.

Who is present?

According to the official statement from the MoD, so far, 930 exhibitors have registered and the number is expected to reach 1,000 by the start of the show. Participants from 70 countries are expected.

In addition, Foreign Ministers of Defense from various countries have confirmed their attendance and more are expected.

According to reports, American companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and they have already marked their space on the heliport grounds. Russian companies, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd, Airbus also have spots in the same place.

Hybrid Exposure

There will be hybrid exhibits – booths in both physical and virtual format, which would allow for greater engagement as all exhibitors will be able to meet the needs of both virtual and physical attendees.

India-Africa Conclave

As Financial Express Online reported in 2021, again this year the India-Africa Defense Ministers Conclave will take place. This will be the second edition of the conclave. The first took place in Lucknow during the 11and edition of DefExpo.

This year, the general theme will be “India – Africa: Adopting a strategy of synergy and strengthening cooperation in defense and security”.

The conclave will focus on enhancing defense cooperation between India and the African continent as well as defense exports. The two parties will also discuss bilaterally and multilaterally the possibility of joint ventures, security solutions, spare parts, maintenance and maritime security.

Minister of State Ajay Bhatt, Secretary of Defense Dr. Ajay Kumar, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar. Also present were Financial Adviser (Defence Services) Sanjiv Mittal and other senior military and civilian ministry officials.
